Pressemitteilung am 8. November 2017
Leiter des Zentrums für Naturschutz Ostjava, Dr. Ir. M.Si. Ayu Dewi Utari

[…]

Ijen Natural Tourism Park is a conservation area which is 92 hectares wide with a rich biodiversity and the active Volcano Gunung Ijen in the center. The crater contains the acid lake Kawah Ijen (pH 0.3) which is the most acidic lake in the world. The cater is 2368 meters above the sea level and has a depth of 200 meters. Ijen Crater Natural Tourism Park has the status as sanctuary since 1920 with the vast of 2560 hectares. The park is accessible from the Banyuwangi Regency and the Bondowoso Regency. The crater measures 960 by 600 meters and is in the wildest caldera in Java with a size of 2 kilometers wide. At night the blue flames of the Sulphur Fumarole can be seen. Most of the foreign visitors who visit the Gunung Ijen come from Europe, especially from France. The wildlife is another tourist attraction and consists of Javan Langur Monkey, Javan Hawks and Timor Deers. Special faunas are Edelweiss and Mountain Pine. The Forestry Ministry of Indonesia tries to develop the infrastructure that more tourist can access the area. Ijen Crater Natural Tourism Park should become a region for nature tourism. This should increase the local community economy as well as cultural preservation.
